 In On The Tee

The 78th running of the Petries Mitre 10 Bathurst Open was held on the weekend with over 200 players gracing the course. The overall champion was Mark Hale from Mudgee who fired an impressive 2 round total of 140 for a two stroke victory over Nathan Barbieri and Andrew Richards. Mark also earned a place in this year’s NSW Open to be held at Twin Creeks in November courtesy of Golf NSW. The over 50’s winner was our very own Darryl Bourke who shot rounds of 77, 71 for a 148  total that will see him tee it up at the NSW Senior Open at Thurgoona.

Bathurst boy Ron Bender flew the flag in taking out B grade with a two round total of 156 for a massive eight shot margin over runner-up Damian Bourke.

Craig White (180) put the whip away half way down the straight to coast to a decisive victory in the race for the C grade crown, Jim Schumacher kicked late to grab second on 182. Full results of the Open can be seen on the Club’s web-site under tee bookings.

Russ McCarthy wound back the clock to the halcyon days to post a fine 40pts and win last Thursday’s A grade stableford by one shot over Andy Campbell and Bob Boschman, a lovely round of two under par saw Robert Payne win the scratch.

Viv Butler produced the best round of his short but spectacular career to win B grade and paid tribute to his motivational coach who got him this far (a former world class polo player), hot on his heels was Alex Blackett only a shot further back and third place went to the very capable David Haley (38) while the scratch is in the hands of Andre Schuster on 22pts.

Geoff Boyce and Max Culkin were the perfect foil for each other as attested by their 50pts to win the 2BBB by two strokes over John Payne and Al Hammond. A hot six under par was the winning scratch score by Dylan Thompson and Andy Campbell.
