Pennants Result Rd1
Div 1
It was a disappointing overall result for the team, but the round still delivered plenty of encouraging moments and some standout individual performances.
The clear highlight of the day came from Rory Elphick, who produced a commanding display to claim a 5/3 victory over seasoned pennant player Shane Sallaway. Rory’s consistency off the tee and calm composure around the greens set the tone early, and he never allowed his experienced opponent an opportunity to recover. It was a performance that not only secured an impressive personal win but also gave the team a real spark.
Several other matches remained tightly contested right to the end. Andrew’s battle with Pete Dawson went all the way to the final hole, with Andrew pushing hard throughout and showing great resilience under pressure. Despite narrowly missing out, it was one of the more gripping contests of the day and showcased his determination.
Darryn rediscovered some strong form, producing a confident and steady round that earned him a comfortable win. His ball‑striking and course management were noticeably sharper, and he controlled the match from early on.
Meanwhile, Steve and Josh both delivered solid performances of their own. Although each ultimately fell just short, their matches were close throughout, and both players showed plenty of positive signs. A few small shifts in momentum could easily have turned those narrow losses into valuable points for the team.
Overall, while the final team result wasn’t what was hoped for, the individual efforts—particularly Rory’s standout win and several hard‑fought matches—provided plenty to build on heading into the next round.
Div 2 Highlights
Dylan Sargent delivered one of the most dramatic finishes of the day, grinding out an impressive victory on the 21st hole. His match was a marathon effort, with neither player willing to give an inch throughout regulation play. Dylan showed tremendous composure and resilience as the pressure increased, repeatedly finding the shots he needed to stay alive. When the opportunity finally presented itself in extra holes, he capitalised with confidence to secure a hard‑earned and memorable win. It was a terrific display of mental toughness and determination.
Tony Wild also produced a classy and controlled performance to claim a strong win over Archie Quirk. From the outset, Tony looked composed and in rhythm, managing the course intelligently and putting together a consistent round. His ability to stay patient, pick his moments, and apply pressure at the right times allowed him to keep the upper hand throughout the match. It was a polished effort that highlighted both his experience and his quality under competitive conditions.

Highlights
Oliver Hamer continues to impress, and his dominant 6/4 victory over Matt Roylance has almost certainly earned him consideration for a move further up the order. Oliver took control of the match early, applying pressure with confident driving and a steady short game. His ability to capitalise on scoring opportunities while keeping mistakes to a minimum allowed him to build a commanding lead. It was a mature and composed performance—one that showed he’s ready to take on tougher assignments in coming rounds.
Matt Lester also delivered a strong and assured display, proving simply too steady for Andrew Coggswell. From start to finish, Matt played with a calm, disciplined approach, rarely giving Andrew an opening to shift momentum. His consistency across all aspects of the game kept him in control, and he closed out the match with the same composure he showed throughout. It was a quietly impressive performance that added another reliable point to the board.

Meanwhile, Andrew James had one of those days where the golf gods weren’t exactly dealing him the best hand. He pushed his match to the 20th hole, only for Tony Smith to drain a jaw‑dropping putt from the top of the green and put the result to bed. Tough break for AJ, but that’s match play for you!
Then we had the Battle of the Devro Fitters. Steve McDonald and Jason Davis, they went toe‑to‑toe in a thriller that went right down to the 18th. McDonald edged out Davis for a 2 up win and the bragging rights for Bathurst.

Division 3 Pennants – Match Report at Forbes
Division 3 faced a tough day out against a strong Parkes side, with several tight contests going right down to the wire.
One of the highlights was Matt Loxley’s hard‑fought match that went all the way to the 18th. Struggling at times with the heavier kikuyu fairways on the longer holes and up against an opponent who was long off the tee, our player still produced solid golf on the mid-to-short holes. In the end, youth and length proved the difference, with the match finishing 1 down on the last.
There were strong wins across the board from Ollie Hamer and Mitch Kirk, who both put together impressive performances to secure their points.
Unfortunately, Parkes proved too strong in the remaining matches.
Clewsy, Matt Lester, and Matt Loxley all fought hard but couldn’t quite keep pace with their opponents, resulting in narrow losses.
